In 2019, Getty Unshuttered hosted an on-site, 10-week program for ten teen photographers from neighborhoods and schools across Los Angeles. These young artists were mentored through their work and program experience by four teaching artist-photographers. During the program, they collaborated with one another and created works at the Getty Center, nonprofit organizations, and community establishments throughout the city. Collectively, their images explore a range of social justice topics, such as: access to mental health service within Latino communities, representations of beauty, Black hair and identity, immigration experiences, gentrification, and LGBTQ+ pride.
Photographs produced by the teen artists were on view at the Getty Museum June 26, 2019–July 1, 2020 in an exhibition titled LA #Unshuttered: One From Many. This online gallery presents a selection.
