Dream Challenge Tips

Photography can be used to document the way things are. But you can also use photography to represent what you feel, or the way you think the world should be. Here are some tips to create dream-inspired photographs:

Go Surreal

Create a scene that is unexpected and dreamlike. Choose a backdrop and arrange found objects in the scene. Then build associations you might find in dreams. Is there a toothbrush in the microwave? Or maybe seashells floating in the milk of a cereal bowl?

Use an Analog Filter

Put a layer between you and your subject to reflect what you’re feeling about it. Try placing a gauzy piece of fabric, plastic, or even a windshield in front of your lens to give your photo a sense of moody fantasy or otherworldliness.
